16 events that have to be planned for the second half of the autumn
The end of the summer season is an important event. Before the moth of the cottage for the winter, experienced owners of of f-city locations carry out a number of responsible events in the garden and in the garden without failure. What has to be done in October to November to make your work easier in spring?
List of work in the country in the second half of the autumn:
1. Harvest of late and col d-resistant plants. At the end of the season, Dill, Petersley, Rucola and other leafy vegetables are removed, carrots, celery and beets, pumpkin and cabbage, collect apples and pears of late types.
2. Cleaning and disposal of plant waste. After the end of the leaf fall, it must be necessary to cut off the cart, fallen leaves and all parts of the construction site of several years of shooting. Plant residues can be burned and the resulting ash is used for ground fertilizer on the beds, in the berries and garden, as an effective potassium phosphord fertilizer with trace elements.
Leaves and chopped branches can be placed in a compost, but it is to be understood that the decomposition of this type of organic substance is required for about 2 years. It is recommended to take a cart from the location or to bury a depth of about 0.5 m.
3. Sow the garlic and other vegetables in winter. Many summer residents practice subzyny. The following cultures are usually planted at the end of the season: garlic, onions, beets, carrots, parsley, dill. In contrast to spring, this vegetable delivers early plants.
4. Sideration. The sowing of dizziness in open areas and in greenhouses is an effective way to increase soil fertility and cleaning of the earth by pathogenic microflora. In the second half of the autumn, col d-resistant plants are most frequently sowed: mustard, fatty radishes, winter harbor, wheat, rye.
5. The cultivation of the earth in the beds. In these cases, many gardeners immediately prepare the property for spring fruits. At the same time as the ditch, the floor in combination with potassium sulfate or complex fertilizers with superphosphate is enriched with a dominance of phosphorus and potassium (ash, “ecoplates”, “Monophosphate of potassium”, “Universal autumn for fruit and vegetable plants”.
6. Almost earth. In cases where their area has increased the acid of the soil, lime pushes, dolomite flour or chalk are embedded under the ditch. These materials are only used in autumn. It is to be understood that the process of normalizing the acidic floor balance lasts about six months.
7. Plants garden strawberries and strawberries in winter. Sämlings and layers (mustache) of strawberries are well rooted when they are planted for 2-3 weeks in front of stable ground frost.
8. Plant seedlings of fruit and decorative trees and shrubs. According to gardeners, plants planted in autumn are much better in harmony with agricultural technology (refuel the landing pit with phosphorus potassium fertilizers and compost, moisture absorption water, trimming seedlings, protection and mulching).
9. Cutting bushes and trees, processing of pests. In autumn, a sanitary, thinning, image and rejuvenation cut by plants is necessarily carried out. Some plants are cut into stumps, for example repairs of raspberries, peony, hydrangeas, clematis. At this point, most justified is the use of toxic insecticides and fungicides, especially in cases where perennials suffered from the outbreaks of infections or invasion of pests in the current season.
10. The blockade of the wounds on the trees. It is recommended to cover the places of cuts and fresh cracks in the cortex of trees with garden variety or acrylic paint, otherwise there is a probability that the pathogens penetrate through them. The cavities on the trunks of the old trees are treated with a solution of iron sulfate (10%).
11. Protection of trees from rodents. When rabbits, mice and other animals appear at their location in winter, it is recommended to wrap the lower parts of their tribes with improvised materials, e.g. B. sack linen, nets, cardboard, etc.
12. Conservation of the lawn. After cleaning leaves, nuts and other fruits, the last haircut is carried out. Powder is planned at the latest 4 weeks before the predicted frost. During this time, the grass resistant grows to a height of about 12 cm and goes for wintering in this form.
13. Conservation of the fountain. In the summer roofs of frost, water is necessarily drained and the fountain is closed. If you leave water in the pipes, you cannot avoid your gap when freezing and expanding water.
14. Heating of bushes and young trees. Roses, raspberries, clematis, currants and other perennials, especially boys, are usually isolated with fallen leaves, twigs, a thick layer of mulch made of tyrsa, compost, peat, moss or humus. This is necessary in the regions in which the air temperature in winter is below –15 ° C
15. Disinfection and maintenance of greenhouses. After cleaning the last plants and their residues from closed structures, the soil and inner elements are disinfected using fungicidal solutions. The earth is spilled with solutions with a saturated stick or a green tricacker, and the inner parts of the greenhouses are treated with a strong solution of potassium perpetrators or copper sulfate (2%). Many summer residents sow sidersal plants on greenhouse beds with disinfectant properties, for example white mustard or lupine.
16. Process seeds. At the end of the season you can collect the seeds dill, marsilings, parsley, arugula and salad when plants are completely complete on the site.
As you can see, the summer residents have a certain job even at the end of the season, which is desirable in good time to avoid numerous problems for the future summer. It’s just for you!
Autumn work in the flower garden
Autumn is far from an idle time in the life of the owner of the website. Before the start of winter, you have to have time to do many things, and the weather in autumn is moody and unpredictable. Trink rain is replaced by rain and often wet snow at the end of autumn. The earth squeaks and slips under its feet, hardens after frosts in the morning. Everything lights up later and becomes dark earlier. Cold. No pleasure to deal in Nasses Land. It is better to sit in a warm room and read about beautiful flowers and fruit gardens. Look at the photos and remember the warm days of sunny summer.
Some people explain this state of autumn depression, others call it transient spleen or laziness. It is important not to succumb to this mood, so as not to waste precious time and have time to do the minimum of things that will save the landings in winter and meet spring in a beautiful updated garden. Such an enticing perspective inspires me even on the cloudiest autumn days. Gives power to the Dark Forerunner. You just have to get out of the house and do the most important work, without spending efforts on secondary matters.
planting onions
In October, there is still an opportunity to plant these bulbous and tuberculoma crops, which remained unprecedented. This opportunity must not be overlooked. I wrote about the late planting of onions in the article “Experimented bulbs and grains: to plant or throw away?”
A sick topic for me is Hyacinhing. These are my favorite plants. But they often “don’t behave by the rules.” Two hyacinths are now blooming in open ground. They didn’t have enough vigor for full bloom. Only short peduncles with compressed inflorescences appeared. I don’t even know what to do with these “upstarts”.
At the end of autumn, I usually water all bulk loose soil. Such a blanket will protect them in the winter and cover the sprouts, which often break through in the long warm autumn.
Hilling and digging tubers Dahlia
About the autumn hilling, digging and winter storage of St. Georgin corms is described in detail in the article “How to save St. Georgin’s corms in winter?”. It sums up my experience of taking care of these great colors.
Diggering Gladioli, Cannes, Begonias, Montbreign, etc.
It is imperative to dig corms of gladioli in winter, not forgetting about mon “, tuberous begonia, cannes and some other plants. This work can be done in any weather, although, of course, it is more comfortable on a dry sunny day I have described in detail the timing and process of digging gladioli, preparation for storage, the storage itself and a number of problems that arise in the articles: “How to preserve gladioli tubers in winter” and “Inspection and “Repair” “Corms of Gladioli during Winter Storage”.
In mid-October (terms depend on the weather) Galtonian cormers are excavated, then acid, and in the last decade October – Montbreign.
The bulbous beginning begonia in the winter lounger house. Before that (after the first frosts) the stems are cut off at the base. The tubers need to be dug with a clod of earth, dried a little and laid in a suitable container. They are often stored in dry peat or sand. The easiest way is not to take out an earthen lump with a tuber, but leave it in the pot in which the begonia grew in the summer. Load Begonia in winter at a temperature of about + 5 – 10 ° C.
Cannes needs to dig too. To do this, immediately after the first frosts, they cut the stem at a height of 10-15 cm. Then they dig a rhizome with a clod of earth. They are placed in the boxes without brushing the floor. In winter keep them in a cool place.
Perennial flow care
Perennials must be freed from the dried or drying base. It is traced back to humus heaps, burned or thrown away. The growing place is insulated with compost or loose soil, which is greeted or shifted to the sides in the spring. To delay snow and ventilation, you can throw a spruce.
These perennials, which continue to bloom during the premise, are cut later, sometimes even in spring. These are garden chryshemes, Levkantemella late, various several years of asters, small players, enoter “Night Candle” and some others. I often transplant mult i-year asters and Korean chrysanthemums in autumn to the most famous places. They endure it all calmly and continue to bloom. I tried to convey the feeling of light and joy that arises when you see these flowering perennials in the article “Autumn flower garden or flowers under the curtain”. The bushes must be bound to the support. I don’t cut in autumn and some of the stunted mult i-year bushaster.
In autumn you have to deal with these perennials, which had been dug up for transplantation in the corner of the garden for a while. Usually these are plants for which there was no place. It happens that I cut part of the bush to plant and left another “for the case”. Plants that have been promised by friends or neighbors. I transfer all of these perennials into the back corner of the garden, add more earth and make their fate out for the next year.
Cutting and insulation of roses for winter
Roses for winter must be prepared. This is disinfection, distance, hill, circumcision and protection for winter. I have described all of these points in the article “Autumn circumcision and coverage of roses for winter”.
It hurts to approach a bush in your hands in your hands on which there are still flowers and buds. It is important to determine the right moment, as the appearance of young shoots stimulates too early. Too late is also undesirable.
Lianization
Clematis and hops grow in my area. Clematis in autumn must be fed with potassium fertilizers. It is useful to powder the shoots and the floor with wood ash. I also dig along with chalk pieces next to them. Once I advised myself to do this, a wonderful amateur flower breeder who collected a huge collection of Clematis.
Clematis cutting is connected to the shoots on which they bloom. In Clematis, after the end of the flower, I only bloomed the upper part of the faded shoots after the end of last year. I remove broken and damaged parts. In autumn I pour Clematis loose compost. These winter hardy clematis (and princes) winters in warm winters without protection. For security insurance, they can be removed from the supports and laid for further insulation.
Clematis that blooms on new (current) and last year’s shoots cut off at a height of about 120 cm from the ground level. I add fresh soil (compost) and turn into the ring very carefully. The bank was brittle last year. I lay down on the floor and isolated for the winter.
In Clematis that bloom on the shoots of the current year, I cut all shoots (you can be 15 cm from the floor at a height of 15 cm) and pour the compost to your growth town.
I cover Clematis for the winter as soon as the air temperature drops to minus 3 – 5 ° C, according to which further cooling begins. I use sawdust mixed with chips.
Once when I put Clematis on the boards and sprinkled them with mixtures with mixtures with chips, sharp cooling was replaced by a lengthy wet autumn: heavy rainfall changed with wet snow. To protect the facility, I had to put the boards on the chips that lay until spring. The first step was therefore taken to the transition to the air-drug accommodation, which I consider to be the most reliable. It is very easy to make air protection. The simplest option is a frame of boards on which plywood or a piece of roofing material is placed over it. The prince winter without protection.
When cutting hops, I cut all ground shoots. His rhizomes remain in the ground, which can also be sprinkled with the earth. You shouldn’t worry about hops because this is a very stubborn plant. It is written in detail in the article “Hops on the website: not only professionals, but also minuse”.
Hydrangeap
Hardensia of different types grow in my region. I wrote in detail how to be prepared for winter in the article “Preparation of Hortens for the Winter”.
Preparations for the winter of the pool and its residents
This is an important point where not only the decorativity of the pool depends, but also the life of its residents. In the article you can read details about the preparation of the pool for the winter: “This is how you prepare a small decorative pool for the winter.”
Floor preparation, landed
In autumn I spend the “general cleaning” of the website. I remove the weeds that remain impressive in summer. All this wealth falls into compost heaps (humus). I use read y-t o-d o-i t-yourself (but durable) plastic constructions, which I think is very comfortable. I don’t cover humus for the winter.
The floor in summer is exhausted. It has to be fed and put in order, adapt the acid. Comfortable mixtures of fertilizers intended for the autumn are convenient. There is a note on the packages for which plants this mixture are suitable.
An excellent tool is wood ash, a potassium source and the ability to reduce the acid of the soil. His role in the soil improvement is often underestimated. According to my observations, the ashes are often useful to all “rules”. So it is very happy to be hydrangeas that are more beautiful after each part of the ashes before our eyes.
In autumn, organic fertilizers are also added to the ground. It is wonderful if it is possible to use manure, especially horses. He is on every stable. Many stables are happy about several years of deposit and are ready to give manure free of charge (of course pickup). But fresh “chestnuts”, which are packed in huge pockets or wel l-rotted fertilizers in bags, are usually offered for money.
The acid floor is lime. Plants that grow better on floors with increased acid are not affected.
Grass care
Many owners of the websites are of great importance to the condition of their lawns. Not only do they cut the grass regularly, remove weeds, but also feed lawns. Recently, the purchase of fertilizers on the run, I brought a package of autumn fertilizers home, which was intended for the lawn.
From the lawn it is necessary to remove all fallen foliage. This is easier with fan rakes. I send grass to containers for compost. Under the leaves left for the winter (especially maple), the lawn bursts and whitens. A few years ago, after listening to the radio about how useful it is to leave fallen leaves on the lawn, I did not remove them for the winter. After removing the crust of compressed blackened leaves, huge propharists of bare land became visible on the lawn. The herbs unwind “Capital”.
In autumn, these weeds, which are very difficult to pull in summer, can be easily removed by the roots. For example dandelions and dust. Autumn is the best time for your work. Don’t miss such an opportunity. The article Unique Qualities of Creeping Dust describes in detail the use of Pyrey’s rhizome in the treatment of a variety of diseases and ailments. You can judge how useful dandelion root is by comparing it to ginseng root.
Part of our site is proudly referred to as the “Forest”. Tall trees grow there. The land beneath the larch lies soft moss. Forest grass plants were grown under other trees. The last grass haircut in the forest part and on the lawn should not be too low. Especially when there is almost no time until heavy frost or snow. I keep the best height of the grass in the winter – around 6 to 7 cm. I spend the last haircut in late September – early October. Learning grass is fraught with icy, long – with a twist full of freezing. I never leave mowed grass on the lawn.
Insulation of heat lying shrubs
Heat-burning shrubs need insulation, but they can suffer. I already wrote in the article “Preparing perennial flowers, trees and shrubs for the winter”, since the generous filling of the peat soil under the bushes badly affected the lilac on the lilac.
I don’t like using fallen leaves and cutting boots of perennials as mulch. First of all, this goes against the aesthetics of the garden. In addition, bacterial and fungal infections are carried out. In extreme cases, you can use oak leaves, which will not rot for a long time. The fallen birch leaves also established well. But it’s worth blowing a strong wind, and the leaves will fly in all directions.
I use loose earth (well rotted compost) as a heater, purchased (in big bags) from horse and base peat, sawdust with fries, non-enthusiastic material, burlap and spruce. It is reliably an air-dry shelter (made of roofing material or boards attached to a rigid frame). I hide roses and clematis underneath. But it is better to move the metal and stone away from all plants. A bad option is paper and cardboard, as they quickly soak.
pottery plants
Pots of fuchsia, pelargonium, dope, coniferous and many other plants that stood in the open air on the site, transfer to the house and prepare for wintering. I wrote about her pruning and the organization of winter peace in the articles: “We send fuchsia hybrid for the winter” and “Winterization of flowering pelargonium growing in open ground”.
They can be bypassed in flower pots and taken to Petunia’s and Silver Qineria’s house. For some time, low tomatoes and peppers bear fruit for some time.
It is worth warning that in the fall a lot of whiteflies appear, which can easily be included in the house on the leaves of these plants. It’s difficult to withdraw. How to deal with her, I wrote in the article “Diseases of indoor plants”.
