In comparison with the previous modification of Kamaz 5410, the design difference of this truck is the modified location of components behind the cab. After its release, the model was in great demand, the Kamaz 54115 was actively bought both in the Russian Federation and abroad.

KAMAZ-54115: design and construction

The KAMAZ-54115 cave tug was produced by the Kama Automobile Plant for more than ten years (from 2000 to 2011). During this period, it managed to win popularity among drivers, becoming a star of the TV series “Truck Drivers”, but by that time the plant has mastered production of more modern vehicles, although even today you can often see KAMAZ-54115 on city streets. The truck is used as a tractor for transportation of domestic goods over medium and long distances, its chassis are used as a mixer trucks, tanks, dump trucks and cranes. The trucks have proven to be a good choice when operating in highlands, hot climate or in the Far North.

KAMAZ 54115 is designed in accordance with advanced standards. The use of new design solutions has made this truck technically more advanced:

Reduced consumables and maintenance. Components and fuel used in the machine are oriented to the Russian market and domestic manufacturer.

Technical characteristics of KAMAZ 54115 are due to new technologies, materials and changes in a number of design elements. These parameters allowed the developers to create a more reliable and economical in operation variant.

KAMAZ 54115 exterior, interior and cost

When creating the model of the vehicle the main role was given to increasing tractive qualities and payload. Structurally KAMAZ-54115 is not different from its predecessors – it is a frame three-axle chassis with front arrangement of the engine and spring suspension. However, some elements of the vehicle have a different location, in particular, the air filter, fuel tank and the spare wheel, which is now behind the cab.

The cabin has not undergone any major changes. One of the few differences from its predecessors was installing square headlights, the bumper’s shape has also changed, and the lines of the cabin became more streamlined. There are three standard seats in the cabin, and the driver’s seat has a number of mechanical adjustments: the distance from the steering column is leaning back and to the mass. In addition, a sleeping bag is installed to relax the driver when driving long distances.

Drivers characterize the KAMAZ-54115 cabin as Spartan. Driving for a few hours can be a serious challenge for anyone. First of all it is a lack of noise and heat insulation, lack of air conditioning and strong vibration in the cabin. The dashboard is metal, uninformative and the indicators are located in such a way, that it is difficult for the driver to keep track of the current state of the machine.

Due to the discontinuation of the model it is not possible to buy a new Kamaz-54115. At the same time on the secondary market there are a lot of offers to sell this truck.

Chassis of 2001-2003 production years are offered at a price of half a million rubles, and a dump truck of 2006-2007 production years costs 600-800 thousand rubles.

Gross weight of the truck without a load (curb weight) is 7,400 kg. Allowed load on the front axle is 4580 kg, on the rear – 14970 kg. The considerable weight does not affect the dynamic performance, because part of the load is redirected to the trailer. Speed of this model range is in the range of 90 km/h, overcoming with 18% tilt.

The driver’s cabin

The cabin received a number of improvements. Now its size is increased and there is a full-fledged sleeping place in the cabin. This provides comfort when transporting goods over long distances. The engine compartment is located under the KAMAZ-54115 saloon. It is equipped with three seats, of which the driver is more comfortable than the passenger, which reduces fatigue during operation.

The quality of sound insulation improved, but it is still quite noisy in the cabin. From its predecessor, the car got the layout of the dashboard elements, the gear lever and the main units.

KAMAZ 54115

KAMAZ 54115 is the result of long work of designers and engineers of the Kama Automobile Plant. The truck has received excellent technical characteristics, high payload and a powerful engine. The truck immediately won the Russian market. This is due to a variety of applications for the vehicle: it could be used both in hot Africa and at the North Pole. KamAZ 54115 is notable for high maintainability, and most failures can be repaired on site.

The truck is ready to tow trailers of different types: from trailers and tanks to flatbed and thermal trailers. KAMAZ 54115 can confidently cope with most of the tasks.

The model became very popular after the TV series “Truck Drivers”. The characters of the TV show, shown on a federal channel, traveled by KamAZ 54115. At the wheel of the truck was a factory tester, but it did not prevent the car to become famous throughout the country.

KAMAZ 54115 belongs to the third generation of Kamsky Automobile Plant, the first models of which were presented in 1995. The truck showed itself perfectly in difficult domestic conditions. As a result, Kamaz 54115 became the main truck tractor of the company and quickly spread throughout the country.

Later there were upgraded versions of the model, designed for different climatic zones: high mountains, the Far North, the tropics, deserts and other areas.

Kamaz 54115 and its different variations were produced until 2012 (almost 12 years). One of the most common fundamental changes in the vehicle should be highlighted:

KAMAZ 54115-010-A version for general cargo semitrailers. This change is considered basic;
KAMAZ 54115-010-13 and KAMAZ 54115-011-13-A model with environmental 260 hp. – Euro-1 environmental class;
KAMAZ 54115-019 is a special design for transportation of dangerous goods. This modification is equipped with a special front exhaust and triggering, flashing beacons on the roof of the cab, which is protected by a fuel tank and shielded electrical system. The cabin of this version was painted in orange, which contributed to its identification on the street and ensured safer driving.
KAMAZ 54115-15 – a more modern version with Euro-2 engine capacity of 240 hp.

KAMAZ 54115 is a classic tractor, which is designed for use with different semi-trailers, which are connected through a special fifth-wheel device. It is used to transport loads of various categories over medium and long distances. Part of the load is on the tractor itself.

At the same time, it remains very maneuverable and feels well on public roads. The model combines an optimal ratio of speed, payload and fuel consumption. The truck has always been equipped with the same diesel engine, but after a while it was choked with Euro-2 standards, and its power has dropped by 20 powers.

There is a 10.8-liter turbodiesel KAMAZ-740.31-2R40 with air cooling system contained in the turbine. The 8-cylinder engine block is made of cast iron, and the cylinder head is made of aluminum with OHV system. In winter the engine can be warmed up before starting 15 8106-01 with the TDSU mechanism.

It turned out that 240 hp and 935 h*m from the Kamaz-54115 engine and 935 h*m was transferred to the rear wheels through a 10-speed manual from the old fire trucks. From a technical point of view the gearbox was of course a bit closed, but it was not new. The box itself is configured for a dynamic driving style, which is why the consumption often corresponds to 40 liters per hundred kilometers, although according to the passport it is 30 liters.

Kamaz-54115-A truck tractor is produced by the Kama Automobile Plant. The model received a number of design features, which greatly increased its capacity. The truck belonged to a shorter version. Production lasted from 2000 to 2011.

Kamaz-54115 was a classic tractor truck. The model very quickly spread on the domestic market and soon appeared in other countries. An improved and upgraded version was used as a vehicle and could operate in different climatic zones. The truck carried out tasks in the far north, the desert, the tropics and highlands.

The role of a base tractor KAMAZ-54115 with its technical properties suited perfectly. In addition, the model could be used simultaneously with several semi-trailers, including flatbed elements and tanks. Maximum payload of the truck was 20,000 kg.

The technology worked with different followers, but two types of configurations were the most common:

An all-purpose trailer, with a device on board, carried piece loads with certain dimensions and weights (boxes of grain, belongings, household chemicals, fruit, bottles and similar goods).
Dangerous goods semi-trailer with special flashing beacons.

There was a sleeping place in the cab of Kamaz-54115, as the vehicle allowed to carry out transportation over long distances. The six-by-four wheel arrangement provided good cross-country mobility and stability at intersections. It was reliable and felt good in the field.

Several exterior designs were available. The main differences were the volume of the fuel tank (350 or 250 liters) and the type of trailer, interacting with the equipment. The basic version was equipped with a classic exhaust system, unprotected electrical system and a small fuel tank.
