Kamaz 4350 is a four-wheel drive truck with the wheel configuration of 4 on 4. The development of devices for the transportation of 30-40 people and the possibility of operating in different conditions began in the 1970s. However, the appearance of the Mustang lineup had to wait almost 30 years. Its first representative was Kamaz 4326, which did not fully meet the requirements of the army, as it was soon replaced by other models with better maneuverability and cross-country ability.
The designers of the Kama automotive system developed three machines from the “Mustang” line at once: KAMAZ 4350 (4 by 4), KAMAZ 5350 (6 by 6) and KAMAZ 6350 (8 by 8). These vehicles differed solely by the number of axles and had a high degree of unification (up to 85%).
The first prototypes were presented in 1990, their tests began a year later and were very successful. Kama Automobile Plant was preparing to start mass production of KAMAZ 4350, but then there was a big fire, which forced to suspend the production of models. A new batch of test trucks could be assembled only in 1995. At the same time for 5 years the design of the vehicle became noticeably dilapidated. The chassis was upgraded and a new 10-speed manual gearbox was developed.
Series production of KAMAZ 4350 began in 2001. In 2007, the range of engines of the vehicle was updated (the model was equipped with a unit KAMAZ-740.31-240). Currently the production of units is continued. Most of the produced KAMAZ 4350 is designed for military purposes.
Purpose of KAMAZ 4350
KAMAZ 4350 is a unique military vehicle, one of the best in its class. The Allrain vehicle belongs to this category. It is produced by the Russian plant in the city of Navnezhnye Chelny (Russia). This truck belongs to the subsection of vehicles that are known as Mustang. Serial production of such vehicles was launched in 1997. The prototype of the model 4350 was the Kamaz 4326, but later it was replaced by the Kamaz 4350, which fully meets the military needs. All vehicles produced under this marking meet the tasks of the army, have remarkable maneuverability and good off-road capability.
Kamaz 4350 belongs to the category from the section of trucks n a-Board. They can be equipped with devices, necessary for work of frontier troops. Over time, the 4350 began to be used not only in the border troops.
A modification – 43501 TTX – was produced. In the Mustang family this model is one of the smallest. Its payload is 3,000 kg and curb weight is 7000 kg.
A characteristic feature of the army vehicles:
- can overcome slopes up to 20-30 degrees;
- can overcome water obstacles to a depth of 1.74 meters;
- Kama-1260 tires with the parameters 425/85 R21;

Creation history and area of application
Specialists from the Kama chamber began developing a multi-purpose model of the Mustang series back in the Soviet times (1987).
According to the specified conditions the new truck had to withstand high altitude conditions and work at altitudes up to 4000 m above sea level.
In addition to the standard cargo platform, it had to be equipped with operational and tactical systems and special superstructures.
In order to reduce the cost of developing the vehicle, designers of the Kama Automobile Plant decided to unify as much as possible the nodes and parts of the novelty. As a result, the degree of unification for KAMAZ 5350 model was 85%.
The first prototypes of interesting truck were presented in the early 1990s. The experimental batch was assembled in 1995 and shown at an exhibition in Nizhny Novgorod.
The model contained all advanced technical solutions of that time (dependent spring suspensions on a base of semi-elliptic leaf springs, driving axles with two-speed gearboxes, power steering and transfer gearbox with dual variable transmission).
KAMAZ 5350 received the first in the range transverse differential locking system on the rear axle, which greatly increased its cross-country ability.
To ensure high speed off-road, the designers “awarded” the model with a range hydromechanical transmission, including a classic manual gearbox and torque converter. However, serial production of modifications with this transmission was not started. The capacity of the vehicle was significantly expanded with a winch of increased traction.
Currently, the production of KAMAZ 5350 continues. At the same time, the lineup of Mustang series is constantly expanding.
Thus, in 2004, the Kama Automobile Plant introduced two tractor trucks, a version with shortened side platform and 15-ton payload and long wheelbase truck, built on the chassis of KAMAZ 5350.
The chassis is also used on several other models: KAMAZ 53502, KAMAZ 53503, KAMAZ 53504. Some of them were used as civilian trucks with improved technical characteristics.

What is a cabin?
Several interesting changes were made to the cabin of Mustang and 4350 models. For the first time it was changed in 2005 after parachute tests, then the cabin was strengthened and reinforced.
History also preserved information about the Kamaz 430 modification “Wasteland”, but it was not widely used in the army and the development was abandoned. The cabin of this KAMAZ model was closed, as well as the body.

The front and rear suspensions are based on leaf springs and additionally equipped with anti-roll bars, which allow the vehicle to maintain steerability when driving on rough roads. The equipment intended for the army has higher requirements for cross-country ability. That is why a 5-speed manual gearbox with a three-beat shifting mechanism KAMAZ 142 (5 forward gears, 1 reverse) is installed on the KAMAZ 4350. The upgraded gearbox has increased the service life by 15-20%. The trucks are also offered with a 10-speed manual gearbox with a front splitter, which greatly increases the off-road capabilities of the vehicle.
Torque is transmitted from the engine to the transmission through a single dry friction clutch (pressure plate). There are coil springs around the periphery, and the hydraulic clutch actuator is equipped with a dog and air-hydraulic booster. The rear axle has a 2-speed transmission with lockable inter-axle differential and dual-axle drive. The front axle has a non-switching drive.
The service brake system includes a 2-circle pressure airplane, which exerts separate action on the front and rear axle brakes. The brake is controlled by a foot pedal, which is located in the cockpit. A backup brake system is used in conjunction with the parking brake to reduce speed and fully stand up. The latter is equipped with a notification actuator, which allows the force memory to be actuated in the event of a compressed air leak. An engine retarder is used to activate the auxiliary braking system, which blocks the exhaust pipes and cuts off the fuel supply to the engine. In the cab there is a system of control units that control the operation of the braking systems.
A metal cab with pneumatic seats and comfortable visibility was designed for KAMAZ 4350. The seats have several adjustments. The design of the cabin almost does not differ from other models of the Kama vehicle. In addition to heating and ventilation systems, the cab has a place for a radio. Controls are located at a convenient distance for the driver.
