Review of fungicides for grapes
Fungicides are a group of chemical preparations in demand in agricultural engineering to suppress fungal diseases: anthracnose, young plants and many others. These substances are used both to control the disease and for prevention. They are harmless to the vineyard and most often are not harmful to human health.
varieties
Grapes are susceptible to various fungal infections. Rot, chlorosis, as well as anthracnose, oidium and similar infections can wipe out an entire vineyard in a short time. Breeders are constantly working to improve the crop to develop new and more resistant varieties. Despite this, the problem has not been completely solved.
It is extremely difficult to save a vineyard when the infection is already spreading through the plantation. A more effective way to combat fungal diseases is preventive treatment with fungicides. There is a wide range of preparations of this spectrum of action on the market, and each of them is effective against certain types of fungi. For example, Tait, Ikarus and Topaz fight powdery mildew. However, if the vineyard is affected by anthracnose, they will be powerless. This means that multiple treatments with different types of agents are necessary to preserve the vineyard.
Depending on the type of impact, there are three variants of preparations. To prevent infection of the vine, contact agents give a good effect. When the pathogen has already established itself on the branches, a systemic composition becomes more effective, which can suspend the spread of infection and completely destroy the mycelium.
Combined fungicides are considered the most reliable: they combine the main qualities of the first two means.
Contact
In the early stages, the fungal disease affects new shoots, leaf plates, ovaries and fruit bunches. To halt the spread of infection, and contact measures are required. They create a thin protective cover on the green parts of the plant. Fungal spores are killed and healthy tissues remain intact.
The main advantage of contact agents is that the fungus does not adapt to them. Therefore, the same drug can be used several times during the season. At the same time, there are also their disadvantages, the most obvious being the short duration. In the absence of dry weather, the film created by the fungicide lasts no more than 12-14 days. This period is quite reduced if the weather outside is too hot. Then the treatment should be repeated once a week. A vineyard usually needs about 7-9 sprays to achieve results.
Important: contact equipment cannot destroy mycelium. Therefore, spraying grapes has an effect only if all infected parts are removed. The most productive fungicides of this type are Cineb, Hom and Volpan.
XOM is a good alternative to Bordeaux liquid. It effectively protects the plant from infection, but at the same time is completely ineffective
Ri its treatment. “Folpan” is more productive, it can be used to treat infected grape bushes in the early stages. However, it should not be used
Use more than four times during the growing season.
Systemic
- The mechanism of action of systemic fungicides is different: In this case, the active components penetrate the plant, are spread together with the sap to all parts and destroy the pathogen from within. These drugs are able to suppress the reproduction of fungi and neutralize the entire mycelia.
- The undoubted advantages of systemic compositions include:
- High speed of penetration and onset of action;
- Do not wash off the surface of the plant during rain;
In the early stages of fungus infestation, they are highly effective;
No more than three sprays are required for the growing season.
In order to work, a systemic pesticide must be fully absorbed. As a rule, it takes up to 5 hours, and then the drug works for two to three weeks. The drug protects the vineyard not only on the treated surface, but also on new shoots, berries and roots. However, it also has its disadvantages. Microorganisms quickly get used to such preparations, so compositions of the same group are used not more than two times in a row.
A combination of systemic and contact formulations gives the greatest effect. The best means in this category are Topaz, Falcon and Fundazol. Each of them has its own focus. “Fundazole” helps the vineyard to get rid of snow reform, as well as mildew and scab. And “Falcon” helps well in the fight against oidium.
In addition, spraying with systemic fungicides helps against root rot.
- Complex
- Complex formulations combine the main properties of systemic and contact preparations with all their advantages and disadvantages. Such preparations can be harmful to humans, so they require the most careful handling. However, they give a good effect and can revitalize the vineyard even in the late stages of the disease. However, they act selectively. Among the most effective are the following formulations.
- “Mikal”. Effective in the prevention of fungal pathologies and their treatment. Obligatory condition – the fungicide can be used not later than three days after the recognition of the fungal lord.
- “Shavit”. Gives a good effect against white and gray rot. Proved to be an effective drug against infectious desiccation and helps with mildew. The composition includes the most effective components. However, “Shavit” is very toxic, so it must be used with caution. This fungicide should not be used more than twice a season.
“Feuerstein.” It is used in the treatment of mildew as well as black rot, rubella and oidium. It has low toxicity, so it can be used three times a season. The time of active action is 10-15 days.
“Cabrio Top. One of the best formulations against Oidium, also saves the vineyard in the stage of mass infection of mildew. The fulgicide can be used against different species recognition and anthracnose. A pleasant bonus will be getting rid of insect pests. At the same time, the drug retains its effectiveness under the influence of high temperatures. It has the ability to self-accumulate in the leaves, so it is consumed within a month.
Potassium monophosphate can be considered an analogue of the complex fungicide.
A list of popular preparations
The most popular among vineyard owners are complex compositions. They are versatile, so they work for a long time. This minimizes labor-intensive regular treatments. In addition, most of them not only prevent the emergence of diseases, but also effectively treat them in later stages. Some of the most effective fungicides include the following products.
“Strobi.”
Antimycotic of the systemic type. Effective against mildew, quickly suppresses all types of decay. It has the ability to suppress the spread of the pathogen and kill the mycelium. Treatment is carried out twice a season. For this purpose, a therapeutic solution is mixed at a ratio of 2 g per 8 liters of water.
Strobi does not contain harmful substances, so it is not dangerous for people and pets.
“Falcon”.
Combined type. Destroys quickly, eliminates powdery mildew, neutralizes the causes of oidium. In demand in private vineyards used in agriculture. It can be applied during the whole vegetation period. It gives good effect as a professional, but can also be used to treat pathologies. In the first case, the solution is carried out in the ratio of 5 ml of the drug per 10 liters of water, in the second, the working concentration is doubled.
“Topaz”.
Is the absolute leader on the market “Funizid”. It is relevant not only for grapevine, but also for many other types of fruit and vegetable plants to save the vineyard from powdery mildew in the shortest possible time. It penetrates grapevine cells in 2-3 hours, which is enough time to completely destroy mycelium and spores.
Remains active in direct sunlight, in high temperatures and after heavy rain. Provides reliable protection of all parts of the system, as the active ingredient spreads along with the vital juices. “Topaz” has proven to be an effective preventive agent, harmless to the environment.
Fungi, however, develop resistance to this substance over time, so “Topaz” should not be used for more than 3 years.
Squid
Universal composition, sold as water-soluble pellets. The preparation has proven to be effective against fruit and gray columnworms, black cancer, as well as lichen and scab. Detects pest larvae in the ground and under the bark. It has the ability to denoxidize the soil, which promotes better assimilation of useful microelements by the grape culture. The treatment is carried out in autumn and spring.
“Vivando.
Systemic composition of the last generation, which allows to cure vines from oidium and protect berries from fungal diseases during the ripening period. This treatment is made three times: during flowering, during berry formation, and one week before full ripening. Active components penetrate into the green tissue of the system and thus affect the growth of the fungus. Surface protection is designed for 10-15 days and doesn’t lose its activity at high temperatures.
Allows for rapid recovery of the plant even when heavily infested.
Systemic fungizide lasts 7-20 days. The compound is non-toxic and poses no hazard to plants or people. The working solution is consumed at the rate of 2 ml of the preparation per 10 liters of water. Prophylactic preparation is most effective, but it can cope with scab in initial stages of infection. Allowed number of sprays is four times, the best effect is achieved in combination with contact fungal organisms.
Treatment with “Ordan”, “Mobil”, “Switch”, “Profit Gold”, “Phytosporin” gives good results. The best reviews received fungicides “Oksihom”, “Deline”, “Medea”, as well as “Baisafon” and “Abiga-Pik”.
Monophosphate-potassium and Bordeaux mixture help prevent infections.
Chips for Choice.
- It is impossible to claim that one or another fungicide composition is more effective than another. Each of them contains active components that practically affect pathogens of a certain species. Beginning grape growers usually prefer preparations of complex influence, as it can be difficult for them to immediately identify the disease. Experienced vineyard owners can always easily determine which disease affects the plantation and which drug is most effective, and at the same time choose an economical one.
- Effective against mildew are:
“Cabrio Top.”
- , “Ridomil Gold”.
- Some drugs can cure both mildew and oidium:
- “Fundazole.”
- “Strobi”;
- “Vectra.”
“Sokol.”
- Alto Super Topaz.
- If the fruit crop is affected by gray rot, it helps to remedy the situation:
- “Sumilex.”
- “TopSin”;
“Euparens”;
- “Ronilan.”
- Against all kinds of rot helps:
- “Topaz.”
- “Phlothon”;
“Captan.”
“Cineb.”
- Tips for use
- Fungicide agents can be used in different ways.
- Distance from the planting material. Before planting, seedlings should be kept in solutions in solutions of fungicidal preparations.
Spraying or pollination. Used to treat the floor parts of grapes with fungicide. The procedure is repeated several times during the year, necessarily in spring and fall.
- Inoculation into the soil. This helps protect the plants from pathogenic bacteria that live on the ground. In this case, fungicides are applied before planting the system in the trench. In subsequent years, a liquid solution of the drug is buried in the soil.
- Fungicides can be treated with fungicides throughout the growing season:
- during the bud swelling stage;
- After the formation of leaf mass;
- During the formation of buds;
- During flowering;
- In the initial phase of berry emergence;
- In the phase of technical maturity;
7-8 days before the last ripening;
During fruit harvesting and protection of vines from over-wintering.
The first treatment of the vineyard is carried out when the air warms up to 4-6 degrees. At this time, fungal spores are in the dormant phase.
Systemic fungicides give a good effect, and you have to treat both the bush and the soil in the fruiting zone with them.
In the bud stage, complex treatments give the greatest effect. Further, the application of drugs directly depends on the level of grape development. If there are no pathologies, then contact compositions can be used for prevention. If there is an infection, systemic and complex compositions are effective.
Despite the fact that the fungicides produced by industry have a sparing effect, many of them are still harmful to humans. Therefore, strictly follow the safety rules when working with such preparations: Use goggles and a respirator to protect your eyes and respiratory tract. If possible, wear gloves and rubber bistel. Cover your head with a scarf.
The preparation acts selectively, so each vineyard treatment should include each other for prophylactic and therapeutic purposes for their combination. Frequency of spraying directly depends on the composition of work: contact treatment is carried out every 7-10 days, and systemic treatment is used from 2 to 4 times a year. When using fungicides, it is necessary to follow the instructions exactly. Exceeding the concentrations even at minimum doses can lead to burns and death of the vineyard.
Fungicides for grapes: Using systemic and contact preparations for treatment and cureFungicides for grapes: Application of Strobi, Cardio Top, Topaz, Quadris, Ficol, Shavit, Mikal with video Fungicides are synthetic drugs whose action is aimed at suppressing infections caused by fungus.
They include: Scabies, anthracnose, white rot, gray rot, and grape mildew. Means are used to prevent and treat vineyards from diseases. Fulgicides are non-toxic and in principle are not harmful to plants and people.
There are three types of such preparations:
Systemic, contact, and complex.
This article describes the important features of fungicides for grapes and popular preparations for garden treatment.
Systemic fungicides for treating grapes
The mechanism of action of systemic fungicides is to penetrate the active ingredient in the harvest, spreading through the sap and affecting the fungus “from within”. This is a stronger drug. It is used to infect grape plants. The systemic action of fulgicide allows to destroy mycelium and suppress its reproduction. The fungicide must get into the plant before it begins its active action. This requires 2 to 6 hours.
From the moment the grapes are sprayed, it is active for the 21st day. The active ingredient spreads evenly throughout the stems and reaches the roots. In 6 hours after treatment, any weather (rain, humidity, high temperature) is not dangerous.
Photo of systemic fungicides The only significant disadvantage is the ability of the fungus to adapt to such means over time.
Systemic grape fungicides:
Quadris, Strabi, Skor, Topaz, Falcon, Volpan.Contact fungicides for grapes.This type of chemical is used for fungal infections.
Most often the disease affects parts of the plant such as:
Leaves that have just begun to form discs, grape rollers and ovaries.
The principle of action of the contact spoonbill for grapes is to form a cover on the surface of the plant, which protects it from various types of damage. The fungus spores die immediately after contact with the shell. The crop remains uninjured.
Photo of contact fungicide
The advantage of contact fungicide is that the fungus cannot adapt to the drug and develop immunity, so the remedy is always effective.
Protection lasts 10 to 12 days on leaves and vines if the weather is dry. High ambient temperature reduces the duration of action of the chemical. Therefore, in such cases it’s worth to treat after 10 or even 8 days.
Important: Spraying is sufficient from days 7 to 8. After rain, the procedure is repeated regardless of when it was carried out.Contact preparations for grapes are good as prevention. It does not make sense to apply them to already damaged areas, as the preparation does not remove mycelium. When the infected parts are identified, they are removed so that only the healthy parts of the vine are left and the treatment is carried out.
Contact campaign vine fungicide:
Shavit, Kuprosan, Fundazol, Tiovit Jet.
Complex fungicides
From the name itself, it becomes clear that these products combine both contact and systemic fungicides. They have their own features in application, advantages and disadvantages. Most complex fungicides for treating grapes require careful and precise application, because they contain substances that are dangerous to humans. Working with such substances, it is necessary to protect hands and wear gloves. Act selectively. An undeniable advantage is the possibility of using such fungicides to treat already infected grape plants.
Photo of a complex fungicide
The mechanism of action of these drugs is that its action is selective depending on the type of fungus.Mixed preparations are used for prevention and treatment. In addition, complex fungicides perfectly cope with the appearance of stains, infectious lesions.
Complex fungicides:
Cabrio Top, Paracelsus, Acrobat, Polich.
The best fungicides in the fight against grape diseases: description, action, application
To say that some drug is unambiguously better than another, it is impossible. Each substance specifically acts on a certain type of fungus, infection and other pathogens. Winegrowers with little experience more often use complex preparations. It is difficult for them to immediately identify the disease. Experienced grape growers can identify exactly what is affecting the crop and select the appropriate and most gentle fungicide to treat grapes against disease.
