DZ 42 bulldozer based on the DT 75
The DZ 42 bulldozer is a self-propelled earthmoving transport machine operating on a pursuit drive. During the Soviet period, the model was distributed throughout the country. Production of the devices was carried out at the Volgograd Tractor Plant. The popular tractor DT 75, which was released in 1963, became the basis for the creation of the bulldozer. The developers have added many unique features and additional capabilities, resulting in a versatile machine that can perform various processes.
Compared to the prototype DZ 42, it lost a lot in speed, but received a reversible transmission and the ability to work with the floors of the 1st and 2nd degree of complexity. The bulldozer was a third traction stroke and had sufficient capacity for heavy operations.
Field of application of the DZ 42:
- Cutting bulk material and soil over short distances and moving;
- Performing work in agriculture (mandatory silage, stockpiling, cleaning asphalt);
- Digging pits, holes, trenches;
- Marking schemes for the construction;
- Performing work in the supply organizations (clearing the streets of snow and mud);
- Loosening the soil.

Modifications and functions
The DZ 42 bulldozer was produced in several modifications, different types of blades and performance:
- DZ 42 base version with non-predictable blade mechanism;
- DZ 42P with full blade mechanism. The device is attached to the bars with universal joints. The rear part of the pushing beam is connected to a special beam with straps. The hinges retain the power of the machine in the event of tilting, which allows you to change the angle of the equipment relative to the surface of the floor. The modification is available in 2 versions: with straight swivel blade and universal linkage with hydrotransmission function;
- DZ 42T with increased support area, wide crawlers and a big road release. The peaty modification confidently traverses forested areas, deep swaths and other obstacles. Each Caterpillar DZ 42T has 42 joints with special grounds, which improve continuity and prevent them from falling into the shaky ground.
- DZ 42G and DZ 42G-1 with a two-piece hydraulic cylinder. The modifications are used for work in mountainous areas and tracing in areas with medium-viscous soil.

The main disadvantage of the model is the low travel speed and morally obsessive design. Versatility, availability and sufficient reliability allows the DZ 42 to remain in demand.

Total weight of the equipment – 7390 kg, specific pressure on the floor – 0.47 kg/m². The bulldozer could move at speeds ranging from 0.33 to 11.1 km/h, which allowed adapting to different operating conditions. The tractive force was 36.5 pr.
The main place of operation of the DZ 42 in the standard version was a non-rotating blade, with which the soil was transported over a distance of 50-150 m.

For the model DZ 42G a blade with the following characteristics was used:

Design and operating functions
The DZ 42 is based on the DT 75 tractor. In most elements, these machines are unified. The bulldozer uses an all-metal frame, which is rigidly mounted to the number brackets, which allows it to withstand serious loads.
All modifications of DZ 42 are equipped with Caterpillar chassis, including spring suspension. Width of the Caterpillar blade depends on the modification of the machine and can vary from 390 to 470 mm. The bulldozer creates minimum pressure on the ground and does not damage the fertile layer of soil.
The DZ 42 is equipped with a manual transmission, which includes a 7-speed gearbox mounted on the rear axle. A dry 2-disc, permanently closed clutch is used for starting.
The main element of the braking system is the belt brakes. The rear axle is equipped with 2 planetary reduction gears to reduce cornering loads.
The bulldozer hydraulic system includes a pump, a power cylinder, a dealer with a hydraulic recuperator and a safety valve controlling the linkage. Oil is supplied to the hydraulic system through a filter and oil tank.
The bulldozer driver’s cab is made of solid metal and is highly durable. The interior is reliably sealed to prevent dust particles from entering. Also, a heating and ventilation system will be installed, which will allow operating the vehicle regardless of weather conditions. Additional cab reinforcement in the form of a safety cage protects the operator even if the machine turns over. The cab can be moved relative to the bulldozer’s underside as needed to provide excellent control during excavation.
The operator has a two-seat supine seat, the position of which can be adjusted to suit his anthropometric data. The ergonomic layout and the intelligent cab design reduces fatigue during constant operation.
The DZ 42 features a non-driven dumpset mounted on beam and axlebox pushers with TSAFP as the main implement. The stable position of the organ is achieved by hydraulic and screw overrides. A compensating mechanism holds the blade horizontally, avoiding misalignment. Replaceable cutting blades with 2 blades are installed in the lower part. In the central area there is a special canopy, which prevents the top of the blade from deviating from the ground. The equipment is actuated by 2 hydraulic cylinders mounted on brackets.

- Bntt-10 base non-combined dozer blade;
- Bntt-20 loose blade of larger size;
- Bntt-10 rotary dozer blade with increased functionality;
- Universal rotary moldboard BPDT with integrated hydraulic drive.

DZ 42 is equipped with 4-stroke diesel engines of different types with liquid cooling and direct fuel injection. The power units differ in individual design elements and power: Power:
1. the D 440-22 is a unitary engine with vertical in-line cylinder arrangement. Engine features:
- flue corrector;
- high-stiffness cast-iron crankcase;
- full-flow purge circuit;
- multi-section fuel pump equipped with an emergency stop valve;
- full-supported crankshaft with thin-walled bearing shells and hardened journals;
- Starting with starter engine P-350-1;
- Cast-iron cylinder head.
Characteristics D 440-22:
- Rated horsepower – 95 hp;
- Rated speed – 1750 rpm;
- Maximum torque – 532.5 Nm;
- Specific fuel consumption – 162 g/hour.

Average fuel consumption of bulldozer during one-hour work does not exceed 8.4 liters. The tank capacity is 245 liters.
As an option, the engine was equipped with a parking heater, which facilitates starting at low temperatures.

The DZ-42 bulldozer is presented as a self-propelled earthmoving machine. The model is distinguished by the presence of tracked traction, which greatly increases the off-road potential. The bulldozer was put into mass production by the Volgograd Tractor Plant.
DZ-42 caterpillar bulldozer
The DZ-42 model is used for moving loose materials and for leveling the ground. DZ-42 is necessary for construction of earth mounds and removal of topsoil.
The DZ-42 is based on the DT 75 model platform. As a result of careful work, the designers slightly improved the characteristics. The basic version of the model is equipped with various types of dozer blade attachments. In addition, the DZ 42 can be equipped with a universal rotary cutter. Its peculiarity is availability of hydraulic transmission function or installation of rotary mechanism.
The most problematic feature of the DZ 42 is the minimum travel speed. However, this disadvantage is more than compensated by the high performance.
Uninterrupted operation over long periods of time as well as maximum reliability during operation are very important features for this type of equipment.
The advantages of this model also include high maintainability. In the case of failure of a certain part, it is enough to simply replace it.
Purpose
Installation of additional equipment allows digging of trenches and pits, as well as cleaning of roads from dirt and snow cover. In addition, DZ 42 is used in industry and agriculture. The model can be used for various tasks:
- preparation of canals for water diversion;
- building of dams;
- planning of construction sites;
- Backfilling of excavations.
Installation of additional equipment allows you to separate frozen or heavily compacted soil, and then loosen it.

There are three basic types of blades installed on the DZ 42:
- Fixed blade BNDT-10. Used in industry and road construction. Availability of such equipment allows you to level earthen shafts and loose materials. To work on soft soil, it is better to use another variant of the fixed blade – BNDT-20. Such devices have larger dimensions, so they are more convenient to use.
- Rotary knife BNDT-10. This equipment has a wider functionality. If necessary, you can change the angle of rotation of the working body in relation to the longitudinal axis by up to 25 degrees. Such blade is most effective when clearing the road from snow or backfilling a ditch.
- Universal swiveling blade BUDT. Such devices are characterized by having a built-in hydraulic drive, thanks to which the blade is used in any kind of bulldozing work. Bulldozers equipped with such devices are used in construction and industrial production.

DZ-42 bulldozer is equipped with a four-stroke, four-cylinder diesel engine. It should be noted that the crossmember is rigidly attached to the spar brackets. The latter are located between the rollers, on which the main thrust during movement falls. The hydraulic system consists of a three-section manifold and a hydraulic pump.
The model DZ-42 is distinguished by well-thought-out layout and well-organized design. The driver’s cabin provides a good overview, which allows to control all the working areas.
The diesel auxiliary power unit is also equipped with a preheater. This feature allows the bulldozer’s engine to start even at minimal temperatures.

The driver’s cab is made of one-piece high-strength metal. It closes very securely and is equipped with a ventilation and heating system. Therefore, you can work on the site in any weather.
The position of the seat can be adjusted slightly depending on the anthropometric data of the driver. This significantly reduces fatigue during long hours of work. You can easily move the driver’s cab away from the bulldozer’s main axis if necessary. This gives the operator a better view and a clearer view of the work process.

The supercharged diesel component of the engine is also liquid cooled. This allows the bulldozer to be operated for long periods of time. The nominal power of the power plant is kept at 95 hp.

The engine is started by pushing the electric starter. It runs with a clutch mixer and a seven-speed manual transmission. The standard tank volume is 245 liters.
The bulldozer uses a non-rotating garbage truck, which is attached to the cross beam by two clamping bars, as its main operating device. The equipment is held in the initial position by rigid screw violations.
The blade itself is driven by two hydraulic cylinders. The width of the device corresponds to 2.5 meters, but the height can vary from 80 to 90 cm, depending on the version of the model.
DZ-42G
DZ-42 g was designed to perform complaining and construction works on medium-heavy soils. As the main equipment is used bulldozer can in comma. As a result, the operational potential of the model is slightly increased.

This bulldozer variation is equipped with a power unit, the nominal power of which does not exceed 90 hp. At the same time the overall dimensions of the model are somewhat increased.
