Truck cranes and other special equipment on Kamaz-63501 chassis
In particular, truck cranes on the chassis of the Kamaz-63501 were widely used. A powerful crane system with a lifting capacity of 30, 40 or 50 tons is installed on the chassis (“Klintsy”, “Galichanin”, etc.), the telescopic boom of the four sections of such cranes is made of all-metal profiles. The differential is also lockable from the cab. But it is not possible to disable part of the drive.
All wheels work in sync, so fuel consumption increases. But often the way from the range to the army is on an ordinary asphalt road.

KAMAZ-63501 transmission
KAMAZ-63501 trucks are equipped with a 16-speed manual transmission ZF 16S 1820. These gears were imported by the factory from Europe, at first imported design and manufacture. Later the production of ZF EcoSplit-ZF 16S151 and ZF 16S1820 gearboxes was launched in Naberezhnye Chelny, and today more than 80 per cent of all KAMAZ heavy-duty trucks are equipped with these gearboxes.
A number of business companies, including Kamaz, ZMZ, and Rosalit LLC, have established a site and mechoprocess of aluminum housings of these boxes, cast covers and clutch cards, wave and pinion production. However, from 2017 the cams, synchronizers and seals will still be supplied from Germany.
The cup on the KAMAZ-63501 is diaphragm type, single disc, dry. The drive is hydraulic with a pneumatic actuator. Diameter of lining is 430 mm. KAMAZ-65111 two-speed transfer case (1.662: 1 first/top and 0.917: 1 second/lower) with interlocking differential. The main gear is double, several bevel and several spur gears (7.22: 1). On the Kamaz 6350 SUV the front suspension is spring, and the rear suspension is balanced, designed on semi-elliptic leaf springs. The drive axles and the front axles are fitted with double reduction gears with differential lock and equal angular velocity coupling. Due to the differential gear the axles are permanently disengaged, a demultiplier is built, due to which an inter-axle differential is possible.
Since the steering is equipped with power steering, the car model is predictable and easy to control on the road, which is important when fully loaded. Among the off-road vehicles developed at the plant, the KAMAZ 6350 Mustang was the first to be equipped with inter-axle differential locks. This, along with differences in the transfer case and rear chassis interlocks, allowed for increased cross-country capability. Inter-axle locking was inevitably performed by pneumatic actuator. This is very impractical in real operation, as it requires stopping to activate it.

On rough terrain it is quite difficult to drive trucks with a conventional manual transmission, so a decent hydraulic transmission, which is a torque converter paired with a standard transmission, was developed specially for off-road vehicles of this model. When the speed of rotation reaches a certain value, the torque converter locks up and actually becomes a rigid shaft, pumped oil appears, with virtually no loss of power. Design of the vehicle
The design of the KAMAZ-6350 allows it to travel off-road. The eight-cylinder diesel engine develops power of 360 hp. Thanks to a modern generator, the vehicle can be started after a long idle time in the freezing cold up to 50 degrees. Engine capacity is 11.76 liters.
Despite the high quality of the vehicle, many military personnel complain about defects. The most common problem is the failure of the transfer case. If the truck is equipped with 161-series transmission, it is possible to tow it no more than 50 kilometers, because the gearbox did not work properly, and sometimes half of it fell out.
Even during the towing the knuckles can break on the front axle, because they can not withstand a long high load. The main disadvantage is the complex technical device, which does not allow to quickly repair the machine in the field.
Disadvantages are rare, but there are always advantages. Kamaz-6350 “Mustang” is able to overcome water obstacles up to 1.75 meters deep, climb to a height of 31 degrees and move walls up to 60 centimeters high. For loading in the body is used a built-in manipulator, which can withstand a load of up to 2 tons.
The cabin of the vehicle is designed for three people, has a place to sleep and is equipped with concealed armor. The fuel tanks, engine floor and batteries are protected against enemy fire, something the main competitors do not have. Protection of the engine ground was the explosion of a fragmentation grenade.
The basic version of the cab is not equipped with additional devices. When ordering a truck at the factory, you can choose to install a speedometer, heating system and panoramic process.
